Based in Fort Worth, Escalante is the new owner and operator of Redstone Golf Club (Tournament and Member Courses), Shadow Hawk Golf Club, The Houstonian Golf & Country Club and BlackHorse Golf Club (North and South Courses).

The sale price of the acquisition was not disclosed.

Escalante, a 22-year-old boutique firm, adds six prestigious courses to its growing national footprint of a high-end portfolio. Among Escalante’s properties are the Golf Club at Dove Mountain, the Arizona course that plays host to the PGA Tour’s World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship; the Crosby National Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; the Country Club of the North in Beavercreek, Ohio, and Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla.

“Escalante has built a strong portfolio of golf properties across the nation,” said Robert Henricksen, the CEO of the Redstone Companies. “Shadow Hawk, The Houstonian Golf & Country Club, Redstone Golf Club and BlackHorse offer a great complement to Escalante’s portfolio, while helping to expand their reach into the state of Texas.”

David Matheson, the vice president of corporate communications and marketing for Escalante, said the deal came together quickly.

“We first looked at the properties during the week between Christmas and New Year’s,” Matheson said. “It was a real fast-track deal…We’re based in Fort Worth, and all of our courses are spread across the country. We had no courses in Texas. What excites us most is that we’re adding world-class golf courses that we can drive to.

“Also, when these courses were developed and built, they were done so by those who have a passion for golf and know what their customers want,” Matheson continued. “We’re hoping to carry forward what they started.”

The 7,422-yard Tournament Course at Redstone was built by Rees Jones with David Toms and opened in 2006. The 7,500-yard Redstone Member Course, designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, hosted the SHO from 2003-05. Thirty six-hole BlackHorse Golf Club is one of the premier daily fee facilities in Houston. Its North and South Courses feature an eclectic mix of tree-lined, open and quarry holes.

Shadow Hawk Golf Club and The Houstonian Golf & Country Club are revered as two of the city’s most vaunted private clubs. Since 1999, Shadow Hawk has offered members understated elegance and unmatched exclusivity on a critically acclaimed Rees Jones designed layout that hosted the 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. The Houstonian Golf & Country Club boasts an exceptional links-style Rees Jones course along with a state-of-the-art fitness center, spa, tennis courts, the Oasis Bar & Grille and innovative Kids Clubhouse childcare facility.

Matheson said members of each club and regulars of the Redstone public courses should see virtually no changes to their experiences.

“The beauty of this is that Redstone did so many things so well,” he said. “Each club has its own culture and own position in the market. The way they executed their design in that strategy is really strong. From member perspective, it will be a seamless experience. A lot of attention will be spent on making sure each of those courses is as good as they can be.”
