on 27 July 2012.

HORSESHOE BAY—Wes Artac of Kingwood on Thursday made a flurry of birdies on the back nine to salvage his round and maintain the lead at the 85th Texas State Junior Championship presented by Merrill Lynch. Blaine Hale, Jr. of Dallas and DJ Godoy of Hideaway are tied for second place only two shots back.

Conducted by the Legends Junior Tour, the Boys 15-18 division of the Texas State Junior Championship presented by Merrill Lynch is being held at Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Ram Rock course. The par-71 layout plays 6,811 yards for the 120 competitors from around the state.

The 16-year-old Artac looks for his first Legends Junior Tour victory Friday in the Boys 15-18 division. When he was 11, he won the Boys 14 & Under division at the 2007 Kingwood Swing at Deerwood Golf Club.

Hale, Jr. and Godoy will also be looking for their first victories in the older age division. The two players are tied at 4-over par 146. Five players are tied for fourth at 149 including defending champion Stratton Nolen.

Bryce Alley of Longview made his first career hole-in-one on No. 8. The par-3 played 179 yards.
